The Death of the Mac Notebook

Posted in General by GWild on September 19, 2007 @ 16:32

My wife’s MacBook finally died when the main board failed. I researched the issue and found that this was a known problem for the model. Unfortunately, their was no ‘assistance’ (warranty, deal on replacement pricing, etc.) with the issue. Wouldn’t you know it – not long ago I spent $95USD to upgrade the Mac software to OS X Tiger. Such is life.

I shopped around and, while I think the Mac notebooks are great systems, could not see spending the money to buy a new one. I likewise could not see the point in paying $350USD to replace the main board on a 600 MHz system.

I decided on an HP notebook as a replacement. It had the features I liked at a price I was willing to pay.

Note to Notebook/Vista users: If you find that your print server will not respond to print jobs once the system ‘wakes’ from sleep mode, turn snmp off in the port settings. Drove me nuts until I found the fix.
